Thousands participants joined together in the Canada Day evening for the Trans March, the largest annual event of the trans community. Ontario New Democratic MPP Cheri DiNovo had arrived at the opening for a speech and participated the march for showing support.  The first event was being held in 2009. The purpose of this march is to allow those trans identified people, their friends and allies to stand up together for unity. The group started at Church and Hayden Street, made their way along Bloor Street, south on Yonge and east on Carlton to Allan Gardens.

According to used to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, the word trans is used to describe someone who feels that they are not the same gender as the physical body they was born with, or who does not fit easily into being either a male or a female.
